A Small Montessori School Focused on Independence, Curiosity, and Respect

Highland Hills Montessori is a small, intentionally designed PK-2nd Grade program blending Montessori independence with nature-based learning. Our environment is calm, structured, and intellectually curious, supporting children as they develop concentration, self-direction, and respect for others.

Our classrooms cultivate deep concentration, academic engagement, creativity, and social maturity under clear expectations and adult leadership.

Highland Hills is best suited for families who value:

  • Strong routines and clear boundaries
  • Respect for adult guidance and classroom structure
  • Intellectual challenge alongside a protected childhood
  • A peaceful, focused learning environment

Our Educational Approach

Rooted in the authentic Montessori and enriched by nature-based learning, Highland Hills offers children the freedom to explore and advance within clearly defined limits.

In our beautiful classrooms, children experience:

  • Uninterrupted work cycles that support deep focus

  • Individualized academic progression

  • Explicit instruction in and strong expectations for grace, courtesy, and social responsibility

  • Hands-on exploration in language, mathematics, culture, and science

  • Inquiry-based afternoon work

  • Daily outdoor time, free play after the work cycle, and structured art lessons

Advanced ability is treated as normal, not exceptional—and never as a performance.

Classroom Culture: Calm, Orderly, and Purposeful

A defining characteristic of Highland Hills is the quiet focus of the classroom community.
Children work independently, collaborate respectfully, and participate in maintaining the order of the environment.

Students are expected to:

  • Follow classroom routines and adult guidance

  • Respect the work, space, and concentration of others

  • Care for materials and shared environments

  • Develop independence alongside cooperation

  • Engage thoughtfully with academic and creative work

  • Highland Hills is not a permissive environment.

  • Clear limits, consistent expectations, and steady adult leadership protect the conditions that allow children to concentrate, explore, and learn well.

Our Model

Nature

Outdoor Learning

At Highland Hills, children enjoy exploring 6.5 acres of private forest land, playing, building, climbing, and the wonder of "being children."

Enrichment

Art, Baking, Literature, Violin, and Chess

Our environment includes three carefully curated indoor play spaces designed for open-ended, imaginative, and creative play with opportunities for both free play and group activities. We use these spaces before and after to compliment our time in the Montessori classroom. They inspire imagination and curiosity, community seasonal activities including baking, cooking, handwork, and art.

We also place value on rich classical poems, literature, and reinforcing manners and habits that help shape character. Starting in September, our oldest students will have opportunity for chess, STEM, and violin.

Hands-On Learning

In our Montessori Classroom, our young preschoolers through first graders develop strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and social skills with hands-on Montessori materials. Our prepared Montessori environment provides a beautiful foundation for life-long learning. We follow authentic Montessori standards with an AMI trained guide, multi-age classroom, uninterrupted work periods, all traditional Montessori areas and materials, and a curriculum rooted in science with over 100 years of proven success.
